I posted this a while back on the old blog space, but it definitely warrants repeating. How often do we wash our yoga outfit but fail to get the sweat (and the rest) off our mats? Get to it, guys. Clean ’em good.
Mats get gross, you guys. We most likely end up sweating on them and bringing all the hand-related germiness to the party, but if you’re anything like me (especially in the summer) you’ll be bringing all the bare-feet, muddy love to the mat, too. So we end up with some serious ick-factors involved in our lovely yoga practice (and a grubby mat is never pretty). But, fret not lovely folks, for I’ve a wicked and super easy recipe for a DIY mat cleaner.
– A spray bottle (those ones for house plants are ace) – Some apple cider vinegar (from your morning stash!) – Tea tree essential oil – Another rockin’ essential oil – lavender is awesome, or maybe grapefruit (my favourite!)
Just throw the ACV in the bottle with equal parts water. Mix in with the oils, shake, spray and wipe! The tea tree is naturally antiseptic and an antifungal, and the ACV is a disinfectant and helps break up the gross oils left from a sweaty practice. You could even leave the mat outside on a sunny day and feel the sparkles.
Here’s to clean yoga mats. (And if anyone fancies cleaning my class mats while you’re cleaning yours…?)
